Growing

Growing

Postby Grymn » Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:11 pm

There was a quick in game discussion that included EK, myself, Rappa, Cool Dude & Celly where we discussed among other thing growing but in a wise, controlled manner.

We decided to:

A). open up applications again to the general public

B). post recruitment announcement on Planet Calypso Forum

C). begin game game recruitment

We will not start this until after Merry Mayhem since most of us will be supporting Rappa in his run in Cat 2 and we still need to but together what criteria future recruits must meet.

To that end we want and need your feed back on what that criteria might be.

This forum will be for that discussion.

Additionally we will be harsh on who gets to stay in STC once recruited. If they don't step up and make themselves part of the society they will be kicked with out compunction.

We are as strong as our weakest link and as Alexa pointed out in an earlier post participation has been sorely lacking

In the future participation will be mandatory. This doesn't mean you have to go to every soc function (and we are planning some nice ones) but lurking without being part of the conversation must and will end.

So put forth your ideas here for growing our society and help be part of the solution.

Ok two questions who here uses android based phones. I'm bored and working on an entropia database for the phone and could even make it have a fourm on it. It would not only make socs easier. To chat and stay connected better but.to.increase participation. Thoughts pm me or.post

Firstly, that was one question, secondly, :offtopic:

All attractive options. PCF recruitment thread is good in that if it works, it means a potential recruit is already on it and that speaks well of him/her/them. Additional benefit is that we post criteria and they self screen based upon the posted guidelines.

I'm not a fan of open soc term apps. There is no control, filter, requirements (hopefully there will be when they revamp the soc terminals in 2014. You heard it here first!) and lastly, no face to go along with it. An app coming from invitation means so much more to a burgeoning "social" environ than a soulless terminal. It already means somebody met this person and this person already knows someone in soc. That pretty much sums up my opinion on option C as well. :D

Lastly however, a huge problem faced in the past was lack of accountability. Who, specifically, is responsible for the new applicant? In the past, new recruits were dumped on soc and soc was expected to take care of them. This isn't utopia and nobody wants to dedicate all their game play towards babysitting through a certain proficiency, which is what happens when nobody is "required" to step up. Only a dedicated few will and they will ultimately burn out. Without "account-a-bili-buddies" to assist in looking out for them, they will get lost and most will fail to meet the criteria. This can work as a filter, as in keep the 10% who are self motivated, but that's not good for EU as a whole. Just my two pecs.

Well I still maintain that all new noob recruits should have a soc mentor.

Who that mentor is can be decided at the time, either the person inviting (if skilled enough to mentor) or allocated one depending upon their time zone/playing time and availability. I say availability as I don't agree with anyone having herds of disciples so this needs to be spread around the soc.

We also need new players to take some responsibility themselves:
They should register on this forum and visit regularly (however that is defined).
They should register on PlanetCalypsoForum
They should register on EntropiaTracker
they should have a look at other support sites such as those listed in our Information and Guides section here - links-to-other-resource-sites-t224.html

They should have more cowbell!

Agreed on all points above.

A good mentor will see them through, since most noobs won't/don't/can't. Having a mentor in soc really is a no brainer for many reasons. Least of which (back to OP) is that disciples can grow with other socmates who ultimately become friends i.e. a functioning society :)

So, to solidify a suggestion for criteria above:
* potential recruits must have a mentor in soc.
* Further, mentors should not have disciples out of soc.
* Still further, mentors should not accept responsibility for more than they can reasonably handle.

The first two are easy enough but the third is a matter of opinion, which can vary radically depending on who is queried.

I would concur with all of the above. +1 to all stated. "account-a-bili-buddies" is a must.

@Vince I do have a droidX and think this would a boon to all as well.
But have no idea on the mods to the site to get it to go "mobile".
